A straight, rust free half ton purchased by the State of South Carolina then assigned to their power division in 1965. Issued to one employee this truck was well maintained by the state for about 15 years when the gentlemen retired taking it with him for retirement use.
This pickup was reasonably maintained and unaltered other than a quick paint freshening every few years to keep its appearance up. The colour was changed from red to gold. After his passing the daugher used it as a weekend hauler in the rural area of South Carolina until recently.
This little 6 cylinder 3 speed on the column beauty then found its way to a Clinton S.C. dealer to make way for a new diesel pickup. It was a hard decision by the owner but a new truck was needed.
It has an honest patina coming from years of actual work use which is what these half tons were built for. This truck will continue as a workhorse for our store while gradually getting updates. Immediate plans will be drop spindles, different wheels, interior freshening and new wood in the bed.
The 1960 to 1966 Chevrolet half ton step side is a very popular and sought after truck easily capable of holding any engine you care to throw in it. This one still has its original inline 6, standard shift "3 on the tree", 12 bolt rear end with the only option added... backup lights. Probably as basic as they got back in 1966.
