1970 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 (70 Formula)

Last updated May 7, 2009

Photo of a 1970 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 (70 Formula)

I bought this car from an ex-boyfriend, who bought it from an ex-girlfriend...Long story. This car was ordered and delivered to David McDavid Pontiac in Irving, Texas. It has been in Texas its whole life and has 108,000 miles on the odometer. The same ex-boyfriend (now best friend) went with me when I bought my 02 Formula almost 20 years later, perhaps there is some sort of Karma in that.

The Formula 400 was more muscle than comfort, with its 400-cubic-inch V8 producing 330hp. This car came with the optional 3-speed turbo 400 automatic transmission with a 4-bbl carburetor. There were 7,708 Firebird Formulas produced, the base factory price was $3,370.00, it weighed in at 3,470lbs.

Factory Options

Atoll blue exterior, bright blue deluxe interior, white vinyl top, A/C, P/S, P/B, power windows and door locks, AM/FM, 8 track player, body chrome option, engine chrome option (included factory flex fan), dual exhaust.

Bored 60 over, hot cam, beefed up turbo 400 - with shift kit, 3500 stall convertor, WS6 pkg swaybars, graphite/urethane bushings, auburn limited slip differential, 373 richmond gears. Am running all synthetic lubricants. (Photo has been airbrushed - but it will look better than that when it is finished)
