The story goes like this...
I fisrt saw a Scout on a TV show starring Yancy Butler called South Beach on NBC. It only lasted about 11 episodes, but the yellow Scout II made a lasting impression on me. I vowed I would own one one day.
Well I almost got one in College. It was 2500.00 Beige and had just been fixed, painted and was powered with a Chevy V-8. Had I only known they are always full of rust, I would have jumped on this one. The guy was even going to throw in a car trailer. My parents said NO WAY. So I waited....
I told Joe about the truck and how I wanted one. Well he worked at Barnett Performance for a bit and one day a guy came in buying engine parts for his Scout. He and Joe talked. By the end I had a 250.00 engineless 1976 Scout II. Well I went to go get it. By the time we walked away I got it for $200 with spare parts and an extra set of wheels. We took it to a friend Field to live till I had a place to work on it.
Not long after Joe stared to work for Blowtherm (paint booth manufacturer). They wanted him to bring some projects to the show room to held demo to potential clients. One came the Scout and the tear down began. There was so much more rust then I thought, but we could manage it with the changes we were planning.
We stripped it down to bare metal with a sand blaster and then metal ecthed and primed it for protection. Then Blowtherm was bought out and moved the showroom to TX. The Scout was off to hang out in my garage till I could get the right metal working tools to finish the job.
Just a taste of the Scout's future:
Cadillac 500 8.2L big block v-8
Nissan's Solar Yellow
Black trim and stripping of some kind
Black interior with PMD (Pontiac) Seats in Black and yellow
Not sure on the back seats. (if so then removable)
Custom fiberglass dash and doors with full sound system
Black pipe style bumpers and step bars.
Full cage style front brush guard like in the 2nd Fast and Furious movie)
Black full roll cage
Wood tongue in groove bed to replace the rusted one.
Dual exhaust out of the body (pesky rust holes in front of rear wheels.)
Full skid plates
Lifted w/ black 20's but w/ LARGE tires (think extended steps to get in)
Cleaned and bedlinered frame.
Weld the frame air tight as an air tank w/ on board compressor.
Front and rear towing winches
Storage built in on the inner side of the bed (then I can treat inner rust)
Cadillac style taillights blacked out
Updated round blacked out headlights
Some type of off road lighting built into the grille or roofline
*It might get chopped.... not sure if it is feasable
