My first car was a 1979 base model Firebird. 301 V8, 2 barrel and automatic transmission. Not the strongest motor in the world but I got 9 years of teenager enjoyment out of it. It was a super trooper. Never leaked a drop of fluid or burnt a quart of oil in well over 200+ miles of ownership.
The 301 did get a total rebuild at about 200k miles because of a harmonic balancer failure.... but the car ran like a top from day one (with a slight lifter tick). A quarter sized piece of neck from the balancer broke off and took out the timing chain, which took out a few lifters, valves, pistons, etc..... then the balancer spun on the crank, ruining it.
I traded it in a year later for a brand new, still on the truck '90 Dodge Daytona.

Later, it was de-badged.... in one of it's many "repaints".... uh, collisions.
