I am the original and only owner of this 83 TA, and had the car brought in through the local Pontiac dealer. I just could not find a TA with the option package I was looking for, other than to order it with /T-Tops /A-C / Power windows / Deluxe interior package /Functional Cowl induction Hood, many of the 3rd Gens cowl hoods were non-functional.
The TA is a late 83, I waited for Pontiac to start production with the improved performance package including the L-69 HO-block, 800 cfm carb, and 5-speed, along with a Posi rear-end.
There were 661 of these vehicles produced (stats from GM & TGO).
The TA was my daily driver, and was retired under the car cover in the garage in 1994 due to the family expanding and moving into the SUV world, and the TA remained there for 15 years and only driven in the neighborhood on occasions.
In 2009 I got serious on the restoration and performance mods.
My target was to bring the car back to life with the goal of keeping the integrity of the era, but with additional HP and nice Bling under the hood, with the reliability of being able to drive it cross country with no worries.
The TA can do 80+ mph in 100 degree heat, A/C throwing out ice, and the temp gauge stays calm for 200 miles of desert and mountain passes.
The build started at the block, replacing…basically everything, I spared no expense and cut no corners to insure the replacement parts were High Quality and Performance Oriented as possible, with show quality shine, and with that, the vehicle had to meet Oregon’s DEQ standards test (passed no worries).
I have a laundry list of parts that have been included in the engine and drive train...just to much to list!
During the build I found that Edelbrock was the best way to go for performance, quality and the over-all Bling effect.
The custom shifter knob was spun for me by Bruce at Kool Knobs, and it really brings the interior to life, and is very comfortable to shift with. Bruce is a true craftsman, and will spin a custom knob per your custom request...Just Tell Him The Shark Sent You.
The Shark~ Is Reliable, Sounds Mean, Looks Great, and still turns heads as well as a pleasure to cruise in.
The TA has the 305, L69 HO-block, 5-speed, Posi, 800cfm, Functional Cold Air Induction (rare). Since Feb of 2009 I have rebuilt from the block up.
V-8, 5-Speed, Posi, Functional Cold Air Induction, T-Tops, AC, Stereo, Tilt, Cruise, Power Windows, Rear Defog,
The mods and restoration include; HyperTek Chip, Edelbrock Ceramic coated headers, Edelbrock Endurashine Intake, Valve covers, MSD wires / ignition, Rapid fire plugs a MagnFlow 3” SST-440 system, Red silicone heater hose, K&M filtration, Edelbrock HiFlo polished water pump, mild cam.
Restoration includes; new power window motors and switches, power steering box (hi-speed) and hoses, heater core, speedo cable and gears, all window trim and sweeps exterior and interior.
Pioneer Sound system including 4x6 (Kenwoods) in the dash, 6x9's, amp, and sub.
The Shark is reliable, sounds great, and is a scream to cruise in.
