My wife and I saw this car 28 years ago. It was a new car. The MP Lafer were sold by Volkswagen dealers. At that time we were having a 1961 MGA. I was driving a Mustang and my wife an Escort. After a couple of years we sold the MGA.
I had all kind of cars and they were all Ford products: 2 LTD, 3 Mustang, 3 Taurus, 3 Explorer and now I drive a Lincoln. My wife has an Audi A4. We finally bought the Lafer in March.
The motor is a Volkswagen 1.6 liters air cooled, rear fitted. Compression ratio 7.1. Transmission: 4 gears plus reverse. 65 horsepowers. 0-60 in 20 seconds. Top speed 140 km/h or 85miles/h. The fuel consumption is 8.5 liters/100km or 33.2 miles/g. 4 000 were sold. 1 000 in America and 3 000 in Europe. The car is a replica of the MG TD but was not a kit. In 1987 the car was sold $23 400.00. It has a wooden dashborad with seven gauges and a sports wooden steering wheel.
