Press Release
Wilwood has introduced an extensive range of new braking solutions for the 1971–1991 Chevrolet K5 6-lug 4×4 platform, including two kit configurations designed for the New Big Ford 9-inch differential with a 2.50-inch offset. Additional rear OE replacement options allow builders to retain the factory-style internal drum parking brake or upgrade to Wilwood’s advanced Electric Parking Brake (EPB) system, which includes a dedicated ECU, wiring harness, remote switch, and connectors. Additional fitments include Chevy K10, GMC K15 and K1500 platforms.
These big brake kits significantly increase thermal capacity and are ideal complements to upgraded wheels, tires, and suspension components. Front rotor sizes range from 12.19 to 15.00 inches, with 14.00-inch options available for the rear. Rotors are available in E‑coated GTB slotted or SRP drilled-and-slotted configurations to match both performance and aesthetic preferences.
Wilwood’s high-performance six-piston Superlite FNSL6R and Aerolite AERO6 calipers are engineered for the front axle, while the rear utilizes matching four-piston options plus the proven Dynalite series, to ensure bias-correct braking. When using the FNSL6R front kits with OE pedal and booster, Wilwood strongly recommends their 15/16” bore Master Cylinder (P/N 260-18184) specifically designed to normalize brake function. All calipers are available in gloss red or black powder coat, with additional colors offered for an added charge.
Every kit ships with Wilwood’s street-performance BP‑10 brake pads, with multiple alternative compounds available to suit specific driving demands. Stainless steel Flexline hose kits are available separately by application. Pre-sale data sheets cover installation modifications and application recommendations that may vary by kit.
