An Australian Dream Come True

There is a difference between lowering an old truck and building one that can lay its body on the ground, rise back up, and drive with the control of a modern vehicle. Jade Winter’s 1964 Ford F-100 does all three. Known as Slammed 64, the Australian-delivered, right-hand-drive pickup keeps the faded paint and age marks it earned over six decades, but nearly everything underneath was rethought by Beauden Boucher and the team at CUT WELD DRIVE.

The truck was built over a couple of years as Beauden’s brainchild and as a rolling example of what his chassis and restoration business could create. Instead of covering the cab and bed in new paint, the team left the original patina in place. The silver, red, and bare metal tones tell the truck’s history before anyone looks beneath it. With the air released, the rockers settle onto the pavement, and the stance changes the entire personality of the truck.

That result starts with a full custom CUT WELD DRIVE frame. Finished in red, tan, and billet details, the chassis was designed around independent front suspension and an air ride system that allows the truck to sit low without sacrificing how it behaves on the road. Jade says the truck lays body when aired out, but the chassis is not only about the parked stance. Once raised, it drives like a dream. It was designed to show that a truck capable of laying body can still be one an owner wants to drive.

Air Lift controls manage the system, while dual compressors feed FLO Airide tanks mounted with billet brackets. The air system works with the custom suspension to bring the body down over a set of 22-inch billet wheels made by Koya. Pirelli P Zero tires keep the profile low and the wheel design visible. Behind them, Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes provide the stopping power.

At the rear, CUT WELD DRIVE fabricated a sheetmetal Ford 9-inch housing. It uses an alloy Strange center, an Eaton Truetrac, custom axles, and a full Aus Racing floater kit. The setup gives the truck the hardware needed to manage the torque coming from the engine while maintaining the finish found throughout the frame.

Power comes from Ford’s 7.3L Godzilla crate engine. The engine is backed by a Ford 10-speed automatic and controlled through a Ford Performance control pack. A Plazmaman intake manifold sits on top, joined by custom coil covers that help the engine bay match the rest of the build. Cooling is handled by a PWR radiator designed for the Godzilla combination.

The exhaust is another area where the build moves beyond an off-the-shelf solution. A full custom three-inch stainless steel system runs beneath the truck and exits through billet exhaust tips. The frame also carries a billet crossmember. Custom wiring ties the engine, transmission, air system, lighting, instruments, and accessories together.

Inside, the right-hand-drive layout remains part of the truck’s identity. A custom Sparco steering wheel from the United States connects to an OCD collapsible column. Dakota Digital instrumentation sits behind a chrome bezel and uses a BIM control module to communicate with the drivetrain. The cabin received custom seating, carpet, and heated seats, giving Jade a place that matches the way the truck drives rather than the condition of the body outside.

The lighting system was also built special for the truck. Bangin’ Headlights created custom LED housings that fit the original front-end design while updating the output. The grille, hood badges, chrome bumper, and factory body lines remain, preserving the look of the 1964 sheetmetal. Even with the billet wheels tucked into the fenders, the aged body remains the first thing most people notice.

A custom fuel tank carries an in-tank pump and sender, while custom brake lines, parking brake components, and related plumbing complete the systems beneath the body. None of those pieces stand alone. They work as part of a build centered on integration, from the chassis and drivetrain to the interior and controls.

Slammed 64 shows what can happen when a builder resists the urge to erase a truck’s past. The body still wears the evidence of years spent in Australia, but the frame below it represents CUT WELD DRIVE’s approach to fabrication and restoration. Jade gets the look of an F-100 that has lived a life, the stance of a truck built to stop people in their tracks, and a chassis that makes the drive home as important as the moment it airs out.
