The Overlanding Fortress

When you’re structuring a build, there are different ways that you can go from overlanding to a prerunner to a daily driver or even an adventure rig. Well, this truck is kind of a mixture of everything, from bumpers that protect you from the rocks to a camper setup that’ll give you the ability to park anywhere, anytime, while creating a story that can be shared around the campfire with your significant other. Behind the scenes of this story is Mr. Antonio, a Santa Paula, California local, and his 2020 Toyota Tundra. It has been tastefully built, and the details of its creation are too good not to jump into, so let’s go!

Starting off, this rig is rocking a set of SNF Motorsports bumpers. The Tundra also features 10 Baja Designs ditch and bumper-mounted lights all around, which is a combination of Squadron Sports and XL-R Sports, as well as custom Baja Design covers that give this colorway a real pop along the front end. The Cavalry Blue on this Tundra has always been a favorite of mine when it comes to factory Toyota color options.

Propelling this overlanding fortress around the trails is the stock 5.7L iForce Aluminum V8 that produces 381 hp and 401 ft-lbs of torque. Don’t let the stock motor fool you though. If you listen to this cat purr in real life, you can hear the sweet symphony of a Carven 3-inch exhaust system and an engine tune by YotaWerx. This Tundra is also equipped with a Radium fuel surge tank and a standalone harness to ensure that all that fuel in the tank is properly sent into the motor when it is going up or down inclines. Adding to this combo is a Toyota 6-speed automatic transmission with a 36100-OCO20 transfer case from the factory. When in 4WD, that case can help this rig conquer anything put in front of it.

Lugging around on the top of this rig, you can find a slide-in camper from Four Wheel Campers. Inside, Antonio is running a king-size bed, and the front dinette was also turned into a bed for additional sleeping space. Wrapping around the exterior of this rig is a 270-degree awning to provide shade during those hot summer days in California.

Off-road horsepower counts, but sometimes going slower is best. When needing to crawl and slow down, Antonio paired up with PowerStop Brakes to give his rig a proper halt via new rotors and pads. This Toyota was also upgraded with a full package from LSK Suspension to help carry the added weight from the camper and all the other accessories. The truck is rocking LSK upper control arms as well as 2.5 King shocks and coilovers with finned reservoirs and adjusters for maximum comfort and off-road capability. To support the weight in the rear, you can find a set of Icon RXT leaf packs that provide more cushion during those off-grid trips in the forest and desert. Paired with that leaf pack is a set of air bags supported by an ARB dual air compressor unit to give them the pump when needed!

Bringing man and machine to grip with the earth below, this fortress is running a set of Toyo R/T Trail tires, which are ideal for a wide range of climates and weather conditions along the trail. Tucked tight inside the Toyo tires is a beautiful set of 17×9 SSW Dakar wheels to give a well-balanced look for the 35-inch tire proportion. This rig has the looks, the sound, the utilities, and the driver to make for an exciting weekend on the trails and traveling to the best places he can find beyond the beaten paths. We thank Antonio for letting us feature his rig in all its glory! We are excited to see what else he makes of this Tundra or any other build in his future! But until then, tread on!
