When it comes to nostalgia, Hammer Time doesn’t just check the boxes; it obliterates them. Stephen Conyers of Gonzales, Louisiana, set out with one mission: to build a truck that screams ‘90s vibes while seamlessly incorporating modern flair. The result? A jaw-dropping 1997 GMC Sierra that’s not just a build, it’s a time capsule on wheels. Making its second appearance at Battle in BAMA, Hammer Time first broke the Internet during its jaw-dropping debut at Lone Star Throwdown (LST). And with just one glance, it’s easy to see why.
Stephen’s vision was clear: recreate the golden era of the ‘90s in truck form. The journey began with a true diamond in the rough—a barn find OBS that had seen better days. These trucks, now pushing 25+ years, were once the hardworking backbone of America, and as expected, this one came with its share of wear and tear.

Stephen handed the reins to Craig Rowley and Jeremiah Johnson from Mobile, Alabama, giving them full creative control. Craig pushed the envelope with a bold, radical color palette—think peach, mint, hot pink, and orange. At first, Stephen hesitated, but Craig had just one thing to say: “Trust the process.” That trust paid off in spades. With scalloped graphics laid down by the legendary Kal Sith, Hammer Time became a rolling canvas of ‘90s perfection.

No ‘90s truck would be complete without an iconic phantom grille, and Michael Johnson absolutely nailed the execution. For a cleaner, sleeker silhouette, the team deleted the third brake light and stake holes from the bed, resulting in a streamlined finish that modernized the classic lines.
But this build isn’t just about looks; it’s about stance. Stephen turned to Ladd Luquette of Trashy Side Fabrication in Prairieville, Louisiana, to get the drop just right. The truck sits on Hot Rods by Boyd Turbo Tech wheels, 22×8.5 in the front and 22×10 at the rear— perfectly tucked thanks to Stone Fab control arms, Aldan American coilovers, and a custom flip kit with an underbed notch. The diff was narrowed to dial in that aggressive yet elegant stance.

Inside, Hammer Time boasts a one-of-a-kind interior designed by Chris Pate at MTI Interiors in College Station, Texas. The cabin features Snowden bucket seats, custom door panels, and a trick center console housing a custom subwoofer enclosure. All are wrapped in a rich combination of black, gray, and peach-colored leather and twill to echo the truck’s bold exterior.
Pop the hood, and you’ll find the original Vortec 350 breathing through a K&N intake, long-tube headers, and a Flowmaster exhaust system delivering that unmistakable ‘90s rumble that turns heads before you even roll up.

After a year-long build, Hammer Time roared to life loud, proud, and dripping with nostalgic swagger. Stephen couldn’t be happier with the results. “I couldn’t make this happen without my team of friends,” he says. “They’re the backbone of this project.” Special credit goes to Craig Rowley, founder of Battle in BAMA, whose vision and leadership helped turn Stephen’s dream into a legacy ride that will inspire generations of truck enthusiasts.
From barn find to showstopper, Hammer Time isn’t just a build; it’s a bold statement. The ‘90s are back, and they’re better than ever.
