Buyer’s Guides
AT THIS POINT, when someone sees the name “Delmo” in connection to a truck, they’ve already pictured what the creation might look like, and my friends, this time around you’re probably fairly close. Delmo’s Speed has become synonymous with early C-10 builds of the low and natural look. The build featured here happened by chance, and it was sheer coincidence that it took on the same look and feel as a few other Delmo builds you’ve likely seen before.

Del “Delmo” Uschenko is no stranger to the Chevy and C-10 world, and when it came time to build another Delmo’s Speed “shop truck” he really didn’t have anything specific in mind. But it just so happened that a few blocks away from his shop in Burbank, California he stumbled across this ’64 C-10 long bed just begging to be driven low. It didn’t take long before dollars exchanged hands and Del pulled his new project truck into his shop.

There’s a short list of numbers Del pretty much has on speed dial when it comes to knocking out a shop build like this, and those first two phone calls were to Porterbuilt to handle the chassis and suspension and AccuAir to arrange for air suspension management and controls. With this perfect combo, Del was able to make quick work of setting up his new shop truck, which he lovingly refers to as “Trader,” on his own custom Delmo Special wheel combo in 22- and 24-inch staggered fitments.

With a complete Porterbuilt chassis already set up for air suspension and the wheel specs that Delmo had in mind, the only work left to do was final assembly and the installation of the AccuAir controls. Brakes, a Blazer gas tank, spindles and axles all from CPP complete the rolling chassis. Because Del just wanted a simple driver that he could use to pick up parts for customers and handle most of the shop truck duties needed, he didn’t include a fancy interior or paint.

In order to restore proportion now that the truck was kissing Mother Earth, Del and his bud from next door shortened the C-10 bed, raised the bed floor and kept everything as factory-looking as possible to complete the worn shop truck look. After cleaning up the engine bay with some custom wheel tubs and a few odds and ends, Trader was pretty much ready to hit the road with a load of parts to deliver.
When it comes to building a stylish yet functional shop truck, it’s safe to say that Delmo pretty much nailed that one on the head with this build.
