Zach Roloson is no stranger to classic muscle. Working at Holley for years, he has seen his fair share of old-school builds come and go. This time around he wanted to build something mean but subtle, and it all sparked with engine failure. Zach has always loved the look of the big-window 1964-’66 C10s and decided it was time for another project build of his own. He originally purchased this perfect canvas in North Carolina as a mostly stock ’66 with an SBC 283 and three-on-the-tree. Shortly after purchasing the truck, he experienced a mechanical failure, and as it goes, the project snowballed out of control from there.

First on the list was adding some reliable power—swapping in a bone-stock LS3 with a 5-speed Tremec TKX. With the goal of making LS Fest, the truck made it there, but Zach instantly realized he wanted even more power. He soon tore into the crate engine and installed a BTR Red Hot cam. Small upgrades were made over the next year before adding the crown jewel—an LSA supercharger that would finish off the build quite nicely. This last year at LS Fest, Zach strapped his truck onto the dyno, and it turned 600+ wheel horsepower all while still on the stock supercharger pulley at 6 psi of boost. Needless to say, a classic truck with that much muscle is a blast to drive with a stick shift.

Zach sends a special shoutout to all the great companies that have helped him make the truck what it is today. Without them, this truck would not be possible. He wishes to show his appreciation to Holley Performance Brands, Dakota Digital, Air Lift Performance, Vintage Air, J Daar Customs, Ride Tech, PST Driveshaft, and Summit Racing. “Of course, I have to give a special thanks to my fiancé, Angie,” Zach adds. “Thank you for putting up with me and loving my crazy addiction to anything with an engine and for not divorcing me after helping me take the hood on and off of this truck multiple times.” Ah, the love of a car guy’s wife is truly boundless!

We sat down with Zach to ask about some of his favorite memories with this truck and the build process, and he was happy to share with us.
C10 Builder’s Guide: What is the most memorable experience you have had with this build?
Zach: Driving it to LS Fest with no trailer, just a small tool bag, a spare tire, and a jack. I drove through all types of weather, and the truck handled it great.
C10BG: What was the most challenging part of the buildup?
Zach: Having the engine out three times due to various issues with installations and parts, but persistence prevailed, and the truck turned out awesome.
C10BG: What would you do differently if you had it to do over again?
Zach: I would have installed the supercharger on day one! It’s such a blast to drive now, and it puts a smile on my face every time!
