Where Customs and Chaos Collide

If you’re into the wild world of custom cars and hot rods, then Darryl Starbird’s National Rod & Custom Car Show in Tulsa is one event you’ve got to hit. This thing’s been rolling strong since 1964, and now it’s one of the biggest indoor shows in the country—maybe even the world. Our buddy Damien Davis made the trip out to Oklahoma to soak it all in, and let’s just say, the show didn’t disappoint.

Held inside the massive River Spirit Expo Center, this place is wall-to-wall with killer rides. We’re talking over 1,000 customs, rods, classics, and slammed pickups packed into every inch of the show floor. It’s the kind of event where you walk through once, turn around, and go back because you know you missed something cool. Everything from old-school lowriders to high-dollar show builds were on display.

But this show ain’t just about parked cars. The Rockin’ Billy Bash brought serious energy with live rockabilly tunes, pin-up contests, pinstriping in action, tattoo booths, and even a beard and mustache showdown. It was pure old-school cool, and the crowd loved every second.

Outside, the Cool Car Corral gave folks a spot to roll in, hang out, and show off their rides without staying for the full weekend. Plus, there was plenty of live-action madness with burnout pits, flamethrowers, and freestyle stunt riding. Friday night featured mower and go-kart races, and Saturday brought the heat with a full demolition derby.

Big names were on hand too—Farmtruck and AZN from Street Outlaws showed up and took time to talk with fans. VooDoo Larry did a live chop-top on site, showing off some serious skills that had people glued to the action. And yep, Erik Estrada from CHiPs even made an appearance.

Tulsa might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think “car show capitol,” but this event proves it belongs in that conversation. It’s part party, part family reunion, and all about celebrating real-deal car culture. Make plans for next year—you’ll be glad you did.
