We’ve tried all the basic tricks like tightening the T-tops, turning up the radio, and trying different sets of tires. But it’s time to step it up a bit and turn into a company who specializes in just these types of problems. A few basic tools, some patience, and the right product made a massive difference in the long range drivability of our Jeep. Our Jeep Gadiator is a fun daily driver that has some basic customizations, including a lift kit and some bigger tires which always adds to road noise. But we know that the majority of our problem comes from all the cracks and crevices around this vehicle that need to be filled.

The first area we’re going to focus on is the windshield surround. These vehicles are designed for the windshield to fold down like the original jeeps which is a fun option, but it definitely affects the quietness when driving.

To get this project started, we pulled into our garage and first took off the T-tops.

Next, we simply took out the screws that hold the windshield in place and set them aside for reinstallation upon completion.

With the screws removed, it’s easy to simply fold down the windshield now and start preparing our material.

For this stage of the project, we chose the suppressor material from Thermo-Tech. This material excels in environments where both sound and radiant heat control are important, this mat combines a polyethylene film with a durable foil surface, providing shielding against radiant heat up to 2000°F and direct temperatures up to 300°F.

Before we apply the material using the adhesive backing, we cleaned the area around the windshield with some rubbing alcohol to make sure there’s no dirt or debris that will affect the longevity of this product.

We also decided to run a bead of silicone in the seam of the windshield to prevent any air from being trapped and causing a whistling effect.

Now it’s time to attach the suppressor material from Thermo-Tech. They also offer these great rolling tools to make sure it lays flat and there’s no gaps.

We simply cut the material to size and roll it onto our clean surface. The material molds to our curves perfectly with no force needed.

After only about 30 minutes of work, we were able to cover the entire sealed area of our windshield and it’s ready to attach back into the original position.

With the windshield back in place, we can now reattach the windshield wipers and take it for a test drive.

What better place to take it to and the beach? Plenty of wind, a nice road trip to get there. We were highly impressed by how much quieter our vehicle is now. This product was the perfect solution for our problem.
