Flaming on to Victory

Mr. Top 10” is the name Brian McLane gave his truck after the same nickname was given to him by Darrell Poe Jr. Chris Wilson even made a special Mr. Top 10 trophy for him. Brian is no stranger to having features in magazines, as his Ford F-100 was in F-100 Builder’s Guide. He has completely changed up the game with a mini-truck instead of a full-size this time around.

Brian purchased this 1998 Chevy S-10 out of Georgia already bagged. As soon as Brian got it home, he completely tore it apart and added a ThorBros 4-link on the rear suspension. On the front, Michigan Metal Works upper and lower control arms were installed. While putting it back together, he installed two new Viair compressors, an aluminum 5-gallon tank, and Air Lift 2,500-lb bags with a Chad Criss manifold. To set it a little closer to the ground, Brian performed a 3-inch bodydrop. A chassis wouldn’t be complete without a proper set of wheels. Brian’s choice was US Mags Ramblers—20×8.5 up front and 20×9.5 at the rear, complete with Falken Redline rubber at each corner.

Brian should probably change the name of this truck to “Best of Show” or “Mr. Top 5” because this is one of the top trucks out on the show scene today.

The power plant in Mr. Top 10 consists of a small-block Chevy 305 with a turbo 350 transmission. Chrome goodies and paint dress up the engine bag nicely.

On the outside, Brian installed kick panels on the inner fender wells built by Darrell Poe Jr. at Poe Built. After smoothing the truck to perfection, Brian sprayed the black base, and Vince Massey at Massey Body Shop laid out the beautiful flames. After it was dry, they wet-sanded it to perfection.

The interior is top-notch as well—beginning with a ‘57 Chevy dash with Dakota Digital gauges and a ‘57 steering wheel. King’s Upholstery was commissioned to recover the bench seat, door panels, headliner, and carpet in red material. To drown out the motor, a Pioneer head unit with two 15-inch Skar SDR subs, mid-bass door speakers, and tweeters powered by two DS18 amps.
