For automotive enthusiasts, few gatherings match the scale, energy, and camaraderie of the Turkey Run, held every Thanksgiving weekend at the Daytona International Speedway. The triple threat of tires, turkey, and tradition keeps drivers coming back every year. What began in 1974 as a modest gathering of a few dozen hot rodders has grown into one of the largest combined car shows and swap meets in the country. This event has always been unique in that there are no classes or awards. Rather, the emphasis has always been on fun for enthusiasts of all ages. Pull in, park alongside your friends (rent a scooter if you need one), and be prepared for an awesome four-day weekend.
The sheer diversity is what makes the Turkey Run an essential on everyone’s automotive calendar. Walking the grounds, you’ll find immaculate restorations parked beside patina-clad survivors, big-buck customs parked next to backyard builds, and stylish restomods that push creativity while serving as inspiration for your next build. Each car tells a story, and if you’re curious, a quick chat with the owner will likely fill in the details. The almost 7,000 vehicles on display, however, are only part of the story.
Equally impressive is the massive swap meet, where hundreds of vendors line up with parts, memorabilia, tools, and rare finds. For many attendees, this blend of chrome and horsepower makes it the best place to locate that hard-to-find trim piece or discover ways to make your favorite ride even quicker. What happens if you’re interested in buying or selling? The Car Corral is your ultimate destination with something for every budget and taste.
But the Turkey Run is more than the huge collection of vehicles on display. It’s the ultimate social gathering. Families stroll the rows, towing smiling kids in Radio Flyers behind them. Gray-bearded veterans of the hobby do their annual meetup at the central pavilion. Hundreds of folks line up on Friday and Saturday for the big door prize giveaways. Joe Guzzi was very happy he purchased a raffle ticket on the Chevrolet pickup charity vehicle, especially when he heard his name called as the lucky winner!
The Turkey Run gives those new to the sport their first taste of car culture at its finest. Just being inside the Daytona International Speedway adds an extra layer of excitement as one of the country’s most famous motorsports venues. This legendary event is a tribute to the car hobby, highlighting the craftsmanship, stories, and community built around thousands of amazing vehicles. Whether you’re there to show off your ride, find your next project, or simply soak up the atmosphere, the Turkey Run delivers an unforgettable Thanksgiving experience. If you missed it in 2025 but find yourself in the Sunshine State during the weekend of March 27-29, 2026, put the springtime version of the Turkey Run on your calendar. It’s a bit smaller but just as much fun, and there’s that unforgettable opportunity for a Sunday afternoon ceremonial lap of the Speedway!
