Jason Halvorsen’s Custom Ford Mach-E is Lighting Up the Florida Mod Scene

Jason Halvorsen is a yacht captain who lives in Hollywood, Florida. He’s also a car fanatic with a passion for modified electric vehicles. In 2021, he decided to build his own custom Mach-E GT and was lucky enough to get his hands on an early version.

Pushing the boundaries and customizing the newest EV model has introduced me to some incredible people.

Jason knew he wanted to be the first person in the world to slam the car to the ground, but he knew that it would be a challenge to do so on an EV. The rear electric motor and suspension are extremely crowded, so it would take a lot of cutting and welding to get all the components to fit without rubbing. He visited several custom shops, but no one was willing to take on the challenge of modifying the suspension components on a brand-new all-wheel-drive electric SUV.

The Gulf Coast Captain

Then he met Danny at Slammered Inc., and Danny was eager to take on the challenge. Jason dropped the car off with less than 1,000 miles on the odometer, and they both agreed that if they were going to do this, they had to go all the way. Danny installed a hand-crafted air-ride system coupled with an Airlift Performance 3P air-management system.

These allow Jason to lower the car to the ground, giving it a truly slammed stance. The air-ride system also gave him the ability to raise the car up for off-road driving, should he ever wish to cruise on Daytona’s beaches, or for loading and unloading cargo.

Gulf Livery

Jason worked with Signature Customs to apply the wrap and install body mods, including custom Maxton Design side skirts and a front lip. The wrap is two-tone light sky blue and burnt orange.

Jason also upgraded the wheels and tires. He went with Electric Performance 20×8.5-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero 255/40R20 tires. The wheels were a custom design, with a black finish on the face, an orange drum, and accents on the center caps to match the wrap.

To finish off the build, Jason installed a Focal PS25FS 10-inch subwoofer and Focal FPP 1000 amplifier in the trunk. The subwoofer provided a deep and powerful bass sound that shook the car to its core. The amplifier ensured that the subwoofer was able to deliver its full potential.

The Custom EV Scene

The custom EV scene in Florida, and in general, is a rapidly expanding community of car enthusiasts passionate about modifying electric vehicles. Jason is a member of this community with the Ruined EV club, and he believes it will only grow in the years to come.

“I strongly believe the custom EV scene is going to grow quickly,” he says. “Pushing the boundaries and customizing the newest EV model has introduced me to some incredible people. For the anecdote, I am super excited to be the first non-Tesla owner to join the prestigious Ruined EV club.”

Jason is obviously excited to see the future of the custom EV scene. He believes that it is a great way to express your personality and creativity, and he encourages others to get involved.

The Challenges of Customizing an EV

Customizing an EV can be a challenge. The components are often more complex than those in a traditional gasoline-powered car, and there are fewer aftermarket parts available. However, Jason believes that the challenges are worth it.

“Building your own custom EV is a great way to express your personality and creativity, it’s also so much fun,” he says.

If you’re thinking about customizing your own EV, Jason recommends you do your research and find a reputable shop that has experience working on EVs. Then be prepared to spend some money as customizing an EV can be expensive. But more importantly, he says, ‘‘have fun with the process! Building your own custom EV is a great way to express your personality and creativity.”

The custom Mach-E is a one-of-a-kind vehicle that is sure to turn heads wherever it goes. It’s a testament to Jason’s passion for modified EVs and his willingness to push the boundaries of what’s possible. If you’re looking for a unique and eye-catching EV, the custom Mach-E is definitely worth checking out.
