2015 Mustang GT—CGS Style

CGS Performance in Chino Hills, California, has been helping the automotive aftermarket breathe easier since 1995. Ron and Casey Scranton (a father/son team) have been committed to designing and manufacturing the highest quality intake and exhaust products. For decades, CGS has been adding increased power and performance to engines of thousands of cars, trucks and SUVs.

In addition to the CGS Performance intake and exhaust systems, Casey and Ron have worked with the Big Three since 1999. They have designed and built 28 SEMA award-winning cars, trucks and vans. Every year CGS turns out incredible show-stopping customs. These custom vehicles have made their way onto the pages of many leading automotive and truck publications.

But nothing they’ve done before could cast a shadow on this year’s effort. Ford delivered its all-new 2015 Mustang GT S550 to CGS just six weeks before the 2015 SEMA Show.  We’ve covered the buildup and now we’ll take a look at the result.

GMPP’s entry-level hot-rod power unit. Displacing 6.2 liters and generating 430 hp, the LS3 will record mid-20s fuel consumption, depending upon gearing and tire size.
A pair of stainless-steel exhaust tips flank the middle reverse light in the rear diffuser.
These wheels have the “wow” factor. Massive 24 x 15 Kompression one-off 3-piece aluminum wheels were wrapped with Pirelli P Zero Nero 405/25ZR-24XL rubber and stuffed and tucked into the rear wheel wells.
CGS wanted to maintain the traditional American Muscle in the Mustang’s rear end and suspension. A Chris Alston Chassis Works back half 4 x 2 subframe rear clip, anchored the Chris Alston Chassis Works FAB9 bulletproof rear-end housing, that was filled with Strange 4.11 gears and posi-unit with Strange 35-spline axles. A pair of Brembo 15-in. cross-drilled, vented rotors with 4-piston billet aluminum calipers and 1-piston hand-lever parking brake calipers were used for rear stopping power. A Chris Alston Chassis Works canted billet aluminum pivot-ball 4-bar rear suspension offers both damping and ride height adjustments courtesy of a pair of VariShock dual-adjustable reservoir coilover shocks.
An Engle Bros. perforated gas tank cover delivers both style and function by supporting the vertical-mounted VariSock reservoirs.
The leading edge features a new trapezoid-shaped grille opening with a honeycomb insert centerpiece that was flanked with a new headlight design that features Bi-Xenon headlights with projector beam lenses. The diagonal running lights resemble shark gills. An Extreme Designs carbon-fiber front splitter follows the contour of the leading lower edge adding frontal downforce.
Stylish Kompression one-off forged-aluminum 22 x 8.5 3-piece wheels were customized with Pirelli P Zero Nero 255/30ZR-22XL rubber. Front stopping power comes from a pair of Brembo GT 15-in.cross-drilled and vented rotors and Brembo GT billet aluminum 6-piston calipers.
Extreme Dimensions designed a pair of stylish and functional carbon-fiber aero side splitters.
Raising the hood exposes the Ford Coyote 5.0L V-8 dohc engine. A Whipple twin-screw, front feed Supercharger fitted with a 132-mm Crusher oval throttle body, intercooler and heat exchanger. All this elevates the horsepower to 740 hp.
A California Pony Cars billet aluminum bracket strut kit gave added underhood style and strength.
The Mustang’s cowl hood helps to dissipate hot air from the engine compartment.

The factory interior was taken to the next level with Pecca Leather Automotive. The front Recaro buckets and rear seats were dressed in black leather with red inserts and lateral bolsters. To make sure the passengers are secured in the seats, a pair of Crow Enterprizes 5-point safety harnesses were installed. Just in case, a custom bolt-in Chris Alston Chassis Works roll-bar hoop with rear down bars and door diagonal bars were installed.
